If you were a child of the 80’s, chances are, you know the movie/book “The NeverEnding Story.” It’s about how a child defeats “The Nothing”, (the concept that as we become adults our imagination turns to a deep vanishing pit of…well, nothing). Plus, there is a flying dragon that looks like a puppy, which always helps a story along.
After recent travel, I couldn’t help but think about how experiencing new places has the complete opposite effect of draining the imagination. This “Everything” seems to happen when I go somewhere new; I think that the world has shifted slightly, but really I have. I don’t have to travel far to feel like a different person. Sometimes it’s as simple as walking down a new block, or taking a different path through a familiar landscape. Sometimes it is as spectacular as seeing a natural or human made wonder, which seems so different, it takes a generous amount of time and perspective to comprehend. There must be something intrinsically great in increasing the details of what the world looks like, not only to expand the view of things, but also to reinforce how lovely it is to come home. At Sweetcicle’s, we believe in The Everything. And flying dragon puppies aren’t half bad either.
